AS3 Performance Sponsor JWR Yamaha MXGP Team

For The 2019 Season AS3 Performance Agreed A One Year Deal To Sponsor MXGP Team JWR Yamaha.

The team recently recruited Kevin Strijbos as their number one rider to run in the MX1 class alongside up and coming Swedish rider Anton Gole and Russian rider Vsevolod Brylyakov. JWR Yamaha also had the young Swedish rider Tim Edberg competing in the EMX 250 Championship. All 12 rounds of the 2019 MXGP series were shown live on MXGP TV.

AS3 Performance Parts Used By JWR Yamaha MXGP Team:

This was a great opportunity for AS3 Performance to work closely with riders and mechanics competing at the top level of motocross racing and we learnt a lot about the various needs and requirements of riders competing at the top of their game. Working with the team also helped improve our knowledge of how different parts can suit different riding styles. AS3 Performance supplied the team with our Factory Series hard clutch covers, silicone hoses, brake lines, throttle cables, clutch cables, factory series brake and clutch levers, oil filter covers and reservoir covers for the Yamaha YZ 450F team bikes.

Pre-Season Motocross Parts Testing:

Before the 2019 MXGP season started, JWR Yamaha ran various test days in different conditions at a number of tracks in Europe including Lommel; the world famous sand track in Belgium. This gave the team plenty of opportunity to test the parts that we supplied. One of the first parts that the team tested were our braided brake lines. The standard Yamaha YZ450F motocross bike comes with rubber brake lines. By fitting braided brake lines it eliminates the ‘spongy’ feeling you can get from standard rubber brake lines and all of the riders on the team were extremely happy with the feel they were getting from the brakes with the AS3 lines fitted. Next up were the brake and clutch levers. As you will know levers are all about personal preference and what you feel comfortable with on the bike. This was certainly the case with the JWR riders; Kevin Strijbos loved the feel and performance of our Factory Series levers and proceeded to run them all season, but the rest of team preferred a lever that felt more like the OEM lever so we switched them to our forged front brake and clutch levers. Our silicone hoses were run on all 4 race bikes throughout the season and our clutch covers were used for the first half of the season until the team secured a deal to run the Rekluse clutch kits which requires a Rekluse clutch cover to be installed with the kit.

Kevin Strijbos’s 2019 MXGP Season:

JWR Yamaha shared some great moments during the 2019 season and learned a lot about the MXGP series as a team. The team was very proud of what they achieved in their first year in MXGP which included some top 10 rides, including at their home MXGP; the MXGP of Sweden in September, where Kevin Strijbos placed 9th in both races for 8th overall, his best result of the season. Another top 10 result for the team came in the MXGP of Turkey, where Kevin placed 8th in the qualifying race and finished an impressive 11-9 for ninth overall.

As well as the team enjoying their training sessions in Lommel, Belgium, one of their favourite moments of the season was Kevin Strijbos's Belgian themed bike for the Lommel MXGP, featuring one of the greatest World Champions of our time, Eric Geboers.

Anton Gole’s 2019 MXGP Season:

Anton scored points in twelve MXGP races in 2019 and had his best result of the season at the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal, where he placed a very respectable 13th overall with a 15-13 in both races. In the GP of Sweden Gole placed 16th overall. There were also some strong performances in the SVEMO Motocross championship. Gole took the win in Heat 3 and finished second overall at Borås for round six.

Vsevolod Brylyakov’s 2019 MXGP Season:

Vsevolod had a mixed 2019 season as he picked up an injury midway through the year which left him sidelined for a number of MXGP rounds but his best result came at the MXGP of Lombardia, placing 11th overall.

The Russian rider also impressed at the Swedish MXGP round ending the weekend 14th overall. The team ran special Swedish themed custom graphics on the bikes for their home GP and were proud that they were the only team in the MXGP of Sweden with 3 riders racing.

Brylyakov also competed in the Swedish national championship throughout the 2019 season. At Årsunda Motorbana for round five of the SVEMO Motocross Championship, race 1 saw Brylyakov claim second, with team mates Kevin Strijbos finishing third and Anton Gole fourth.

Tim Edberg’s 2019 EMX 250 Season:

Tim Edberg started the season strongly. At the first round of the season at Matterley Basin for the MXGP of Great Britain, Edberg finished 13th in race one and 11th in race two for 13th overall which was a great start for the young Swedish rider.

Midway through the season at the GP of Latvia, after a first lap fall Edberg charged back from 29th to finish 17th in the EMX 250 race one. In race 2, he also finished 17th for 18th overall.

Tim’s best result of the EMX 250 season came in the latter stages of the championship at his home grand prix; the MXGP of Sweden, placing 10th in race 1 and 15th in race 2. He finished the 2019 EMX250 Championship in a respectable 22nd.

He was also crowned the Swedish JSM MX2 Champion, finishing 1-1 at Helsingborg MCK and ending the series with 147 points from a possible 150, claiming the top step of the podium in every round!

MXoN Motocross of Nations:

To round off the season Strijbos, Brylyakov and Gole all featured for their countries in the MXoN Motocross of Nations, which took place at Assen in The Netherlands. It was great to see Strijbos in the winning Belgium team! Gole finished 14th as part of the Swedish team with the Russian team including Brylykov finishing 26th in some very wet and tricky conditions.
