AS3 Performance Installation Guidelines and Safety Advice – Brake Lines

Congratulations for choosing AS3 Performance Brake Lines!

Please read these helpful guidelines, safety tips, and maintenance procedures before installing your new parts. Be sure to contact us if you have any further questions about your new AS3 Performance parts.

AS3 Performance advise that all products be fitted by a qualified mechanic.

Braking system components should only be fitted when the engine is off, after ample time is allotted for all parts to cool. The vehicle should be parked in a stable manner before installation begins. AS3 Performance brake lines are designed to be used only with the brake fluids advised by the vehicle’s manufacturer. Use of other fluids may void the warranty.

Prior to Installation

Prior to installation, please ensure the following safety precautions are followed:

1. Park the vehicle in a secure and stable manner, following all safety precautions in the owner’s manual.
2. Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery (as per the owner’s manual) to help prevent unexpected events.
3. Allow the engine and brakes to cool completely before interacting with any brake-related parts.

**After stopping the engine, we advise waiting at least 8 hours for parts and fluids to cool before proceeding with installation.**

**Serious injury can result from contact with hot metals or brake fluid or if the vehicle or its parts move unexpectedly.**

**Always wear proper hand, eye, and respiratory protection when working on a vehicle.**

Installation Guidelines

Below are 12 steps to assist with installation and maximum lifespan of your new AS3 Performance Parts.

1. Prior to commencing work, park the vehicle securely and ensure the engine and brake components are fully cooled.
2. Remove the stock brake lines and hardware; replace with the equivalent AS3 Performance Parts.
3. Ensure each new part is fitted securely and that all hardware is threaded correctly.
4. Make use of new hardware wherever possible. Do not reuse old crush washers.
5. When fitting new hydraulic brake lines, hand-tighten all bolts and verify proper routing before torqueing the bolts.
6. Next, verify that the brake lines take a natural and unobstructed route from end to end as the original parts did from the manufacturer. Ensure the brake lines do not interfere with any other components. Be mindful of excessive contact with other parts, as this could lead to premature wear to the brake lines or housings.
7. For front brake lines, ensure free movement when the front wheel is turned completely to either side. For rear brake lines, ensure free movement when the swingarm is actuated. If binding occurs, re-evaluate the line routing.
8. Once proper routing has been confirmed, tighten all hardware to the torque settings outlined in the bullet points below. We suggest the use of a torque wrench as achieving the proper torque spec is critical for braking components. Do not overtighten hardware.
9. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines when choosing replacement brake fluid. Bleed the brake system thoroughly before operating the vehicle. Failure to do so can result in serious injury.
10. Follow all environmental laws and regulations to responsibly dispose of used brake parts and fluids.
11. Once installation is complete and the braking system has been refilled and bled, inspect the entire system for leaks. Apply firm brake pressure for at least 60 seconds. If any leaks develop, the brakes are not firm, or the brakes gradually lose pressure, reverify bleeding, fitment, and routing as per these guidelines. Do not use a vehicle that leaks brake fluid or lacks brake pressure.
12. Include your new brake parts in your regular maintenance going forward. Periodically clean the brake lines, retighten all hardware, verify fluid levels, and check for leaks. Avoid using harsh cleaners or abrasives on AS3 Performance brake lines.

**AS3 Performance advise that all products be fitted by a qualified mechanic.** Read all safety warnings prior to installation. After installation, perform regular maintenance checks to verify parts are secured and functioning correctly and to spot potential leaks.

**If you encounter a brake line that is too short or too long, double-check for proper installation.** If you suspect there is a flaw in the product do not install the part and contact AS3 Performance immediately. Do not attempt to install parts you suspect to be damaged or incorrect.

**Serious injury may result from improper or incomplete brake work.** For hydraulic brakes, it is critical to bleed and pressurize the system correctly and to ensure all fittings are torqued correctly. Verify proper installation before operating the vehicle.

**Torque Settings: We recommend to tighten the swivel nuts to the torque setting of 12 NM.** Most leaks are caused by under-tightening these line fittings, and damage often occurs from over-tightening them. Double-check the torque setting before completing installation.
